Along the color and wood factory, the sloping roofs are extended to form a pathway for visitors and staff to hike up and down the building while observing the production processes inside. Inside the factories, each wing has one alternating ceiling corner lifted to create inclined roofs that allow views into the production halls as well as the forest outside. Exploring The Plus feels like moving through an archipelago of colorful islands where the experience and overview of the factory’s activities are unified. Like a flowchart, the entire interior is organized with the color of each machine overflowing to the floors. The layout enables an efficient, flexible, and transparent workflow between the manufacturing units and an intuitive visitor experience. That census allowed Jose and the rest of the plantation to feel special, even if it was just a short amount of time. The Plus is conceived as a radial array of four main production halls – a warehouse, color factory, wood factory, and the assembly – that connect at the center and generate the ‘plus’ shape at its intersection. He lives in all of the variety of people that make up the settlement now named Zoo Island, but is still a unique individual. He was part of that number he was in Zoo Island, in Iowa, and like Don Simon said, in the world.” In Zoo Island, Jose realizes that he really is important and “in the world” as stated from the quote above. “Every morning Jose would no sooner get up than he would go see the sign. “There were eighty-six on the farm, but the boys came up with a figure of eighty-seven because two women were expecting and counted them for three…Everyone was pleased to know that the farm settlement was really a town and bigger than the one where they bought groceries every Saturday.” This shows how the people on the farm are getting together and agreeing on a common idea, which allows them to enjoy working on the fields more. Of asking questions allows Jose to get know people on the plantation a little better and get along with them, too. That way you know you’re alive.” This quote explains how people, that are not just Jose, enjoy the idea of being included in a survey.ĭuring the census count, Jose and his friends have to ask question in order to get accurate information for the census. By counting yourself, you begin everything. “Well, you know, I kinda like what y’all are doing. Taking the census count allowed people to feel that they mattered in the world and weren’t just emotionless machines. I agree that Jose’s census made people feel special because when here is so much pain in working while working in the fields it feels like the little gestures make you smile. This gesture was intended to lift people’s spirits and make them feel a part of something special. In Zoo Island, Tomas Rivera tells how the workers have a hard life on the plantation and how Jose had the idea to count a survey of the workers who live on the plantation.
